Nigerian artist Kunmie adds a more personal dimension to his 2026 debut project 22 with one of the previously hidden cuts on the full LP, ‘Tonight’.
Kunmie considers 22 a statement on his experience and feelings throughout the year he was 22, with his songs depicting disparate parts of himself rather than locking down the whole record in a specific tone. It is this liberation that the album leans heavily on. Choosing to refuse confinement by an R&B tag which marked him due to previous work.
He chose to stretch the boundaries of what an album should do, exploring contradictory notions and energies on the LP. As one part of a group of works recorded after ‘Arike’ achieved major audience wins, the Nigerian-American felt the need to make a bolder declaration for the artist he hopes to become.
